Swimming And Diving Earn Dual Meet Win against Rhode Island

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Swimming and diving earned their second dual meet win in a row, defeating the University of Rhode Island on Saturday at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The men earned a 160-136 victory while the women won easily, 182-113.
The Eagles won 13 of a possible 16 events and would get strong performances from a number of swimmers. Sophomore Caroline Byron would pick up two more wins, placing first in the 1000 and 50 yard free respectively. Senior Kim Garcia and juniors Maeve Brennan and Mari Wunschel also earned two wins apiece for the Eagles in their respective events. Brennan would sweep the diving events while Garcia would take the 200 and 500 free and Wunschel the 200 IM and 200 yard fly.
Also picking up wins for the women were sophomore Kelly Leahey, juniors Elizabeth Snyder and Amy Bromman, and freshman Anna Smith.
On the men's side, the Eagles would start things off by placing first in the 200 yard medley relay. Sophomore Robert Swanniger would earn the next win for BC as he held off teammate David Lin in the 100 yard breaststroke. Senior Chris Wilson-Byrne was again impressive off the boards, sweeping both diving events.
The men would close out the meet by winning the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 03:15.14. Also picking up wins for BC were seniors Thomas Martz and Thomas Nececkas.
Saturday marked the last meet of the season for the women. They will next compete at the ACC Championships on February 14 at the University of North Carolina. The men compete in their final meet of the season tomorrow, February 6 at Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m.
