Three Cross Country Runners Earn All-ACC Accolades

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - After the 2007 ACC Championships wrapped up on Saturday, three Eagles took home All-ACC accolades. Junior captain Mallory Champa and sophomore Brielle Chabot earned the award for the women while senior captain Patrick Mellea highlighted the honor for the men.
Champa, who placed eighth in the race with a time of 21:22, earned her second All-ACC honor in two years. She earned the award last year after placing 12th. Chabot garnered the first award of her career after crossing the finish line right behind Champa in ninth place with a time of 21:24.
Mellea earns his second All-ACC honor in back-to-back years as well. He finished a career-best fifth place on Saturday, crossing the line at 24:16. At the 2006 ACC Championships, Mellea came in 12th place with a time of 24:41, giving him the award.
Champa and Chabot led the women to their best finish since joining the ACC, only to place behind Florida State and NC State.
Both teams will begin preparation for the NCAA Northeast Regional qualifying race held on Nov. 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women look to defend their title and both teams look to qualify for the NCAA Championships which will be held on Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
