Matt Ryan: Hello everyone. Thanks for joining us again today. I'll take your questions now. |
| Alexia (Cambridge): Matt, losing is frustrating but I'm tempted to think that BC will come out of the FSU game with some more experience and renewed mindset for the rest of the season. If this is so, would you explain how this latest game impacts you in preparing for the Maryland game? |
Matt Ryan: I think any time you take a loss, it's tough, but with where we are in the season, and our record, there's still a ton of things to play for. The goals we set out to achieve at the beginning of the year are still intact. This week, we've got to prepare as well as we can for Maryland to try to get a win. It's going to be exciting. I think everybody's still upbeat and very positive. We're confident in what we can do, and we're going to prepare as well as we can to try to get a win this weekend. |
| Wendy Arlington,MA: Hi Matt. I'm a huge fan and was just wondering do you think that your loss to FSU will affect how you guys play in the rest of your remaining games? |
Matt Ryan: I think we'll prepare well this week and in the remaining games in order to continue playing well like we have all season. We have a ton of veteran leadership on our team, guys who have really been through a lot of situations in their careers here at BC. We're going to prepare and play well and try to achieve our goal of winning an ACC championship. |
| Duncan Day- Wrentham, MA: Do think you can be able to make it to the ACC Championship with all the tough teams you have to face in the rest of the schedule? |
Matt Ryan: I think we have a very good football team, and we do have to face a bunch of tough teams the rest of the way. But we have a talented team with guys who know how to make plays and win games, and I think we're very confident in ourselves and believe we can make it to the ACC Championship game and win the conference. That's been our goal since the beginning of the year, and it is not going to change at this point. |
| Brian Berard-Bridgewater, MA: You have 3 remaining game left in your ACC season including a tough home game vs. Miami. Do you believe BC can win this game and end the drought against Miami? |
Matt Ryan: The Miami game is a couple of weeks down the road, and I'm not trying to look too far ahead. Certainly, I feel we can play with anybody in this conference and we're ready for the challenge. When that week comes, I'm sure we'll prepare as well as we can to go get a win against Miami. |
| Adam (Philadelphia): Now that you have lost, will it be easier to come out and just play football without the pressure of being #2 and undefeated on your shoulders? |
Matt Ryan: I think the pressure of being No. 2, and the pressure of being whatever we're ranked this week can't really affect how you prepare and how you play. We just need to worry about the team we're playing that week. All that matters is the two teams on the field that game. We have Maryland this week, it's going to be a tough test. They have a very good football team, and we're going to prepare as well as we can to make sure we give a great effort on Saturday. |
| Cody (Eugene OR): How has Doug Flutie helped you deal with the pressures of being a Heisman frontrunner? |
Matt Ryan: Doug Flutie has been great. He definitely has provided a ton of support not only for me, but for the entire BC football program. I'm really appreciative of what Doug has done for me and for the program. He really is a special person and someone I'm honored to be able to be in touch with. |
| Mary, NJ: I loved your commercial that played during the game. What were you filming in the dustbowl last week? |
Matt Ryan: I'm glad you liked the commercial. It was a lot of fun to make. Last week in the dust bowl, we were filming a clip for College GameDay this past weekend with Desmond Howard. It was a lot of fun to do that as well, Desmond's a great guy and a lot of fun to work with. |

Matt Ryan: Thanks again for joining us today. I'll chat with you again next Monday at 12:30. Go Eagles!

Matt Ryan: Hello, everyone. This is Matt Ryan. Thanks for joining me today. I'll take your questions now. |
| Tommy Weston, MA: how have you taken to handling all the media coverage your getting now that your a heisman candidate? |
Matt Ryan: I think the media coverage has been really good, not only for myself but for Boston College as well. It's such a great place to go to school, and such a great institution, I think all the coverage it gets is well deserved. I'm happy I can give that back to BC. |
| monique miami: If you could choose any nfl team that could draft you which would you choose? |
Matt Ryan: I think I would play for any team in the NFL. I really don't have any preference. It would just be a dream for me to play in that league. Regardless of what team it is, I would have a great time. |
| Matt (Everett MA): Hey Matt. Despite the loss to Maryland, all you guys need to do is beat Clemson this week to play in the ACC Championship Game. I was wondering, in your opinion, which was/will be the biggest game that you've ever played in: the game this week or the Syracuse game a few years ago. Hopefully the outcome of this game will be different! |
Matt Ryan: I think this week's game will be a very big game for us, as it determines the outcome of the ACC. We're excited about the opportunity. It's going to be a lot of fun Saturday night. Clemson's a really good football team. It's going to be a tough challenge for our team, but we're really excited about the opportunity. We're going to prepare as well as we can this week so that we put out a great effort on Saturday night. |
| Southborough: Hi Matt, what was the half time talk like at Byrd Stadium? |
Matt Ryan: Coach Jags said we just need to go out there and play our game and score points on offense, and try to stop them on defense. I thought everybody had good energy coming out into the second half. We just weren't able to get it done. It was a tough loss, but we're focused on the task at hand this week, going down and playing well at Clemson. |
| Kathi, Lykens, PA: I'm a huge fan of the BC Eagles Matt. I would like to see the Eagles from the first half of the season. How is the team going to pull back together after the last two loses? Go get the Tigers this week! Go BC! |
Matt Ryan: I think everyone is really focused in on the task at hand this week. Clemson is a very good football team, and they've had a ton of success this year. It's going to be a great challenge for everybody this week. We're excited about that opportunity. Hopefully we'll go down and play our best on Saturday night. |
| Matt, NH: What is the best part about being the quarterback of a nationally ranked college football team? |
Matt Ryan: I think the best part is just being part of a very good football team and to be able to play with so many great players and really good people. I've had a lot of fun here at Boston College and I feel like it's great to be a part of this team, to get to know my teammates and have a lot of fun with those guys. I've really enjoyed it. |
Matt Ryan: Thanks again for joining me this week. Hope to see you again next Monday at 12:30. |
Matt Ryan: Hello, everyone. This is Matt Ryan. I'll take your questions now. |
| John (appleton): Matt, who would you say out of your 4 years of being quarterback, who was your favorite reciever to throw to? |
Matt Ryan: I think I've been lucky to have some great receivers during my time as a quarterback at BC. Over the years, I've really enjoyed throwing to a bunch of different guys. Tony Gonzalez was one of my favorite receivers, and this year we've had a bunch of guys step up and make plays, like Rich Gunnell and Brandon Robinson, Clarence Megwa and Kevin Challenger. It's tough to point to one person, but I've been fortunate to have a number of talented receivers. |
| john (boston): How would you feel winning the ACC title game? |
Matt Ryan: I think it would be great if we could win the ACC title game. This is a goal we've had since the beginning of the year, and we've put ourselves in good position to do that at this point. We're excited about the opportunity and the challenge, and it's going to be a lot of fun the next couple of weeks. |
| Woburn Ma: How do you think the game winning touchdown throw on Saturday against Clemson will affect your chances of winning the Heismen Trophy? Also congratulations on the win. |
Matt Ryan: I haven't thought much about the Heisman Trophy. It's something I try not to think about. I'm just excited we were able to win the game, and put ourselves in the ACC Championship game, and give ourselves a chance to win the conference. That's been our goal all year, and it's something we're working really hard to achieve. |
| Jamey Foxboro: Matt, your win over Clemson was definately a big one. But i've noticed the team has been a little bit shaky its last four games. Do you think you all have it in you to pull of a win for the ACC Championship? |
Matt Ryan: I think we've played against a bunch of tough teams the last few weeks, and we've played tough, hung in there and fought and scrapped through each of the games. I think we did a great job this past weekend of hanging in there and coming away with a big win over Clemson. It's been a lot of fun, and it's been tough at the same time. To be able to win a championship, as we want to, there are going to be ups and downs throughout the course of the year. I think we've done a great job as a team of fighting through that and doing everything we can to win. |
| Jennie (Martinsburg, WV): Now since BC clinched a spot at the ACC Championship game, what are your main goals until the big game? |
Matt Ryan: The main goal this week is to prepare as well as we can, and try to get a win over Miami, and move to 10 wins for the regular season. I think that's only been done once in the history of BC, and it's something we're trying to do. It's going to be tough, we're playing against a very good opponent this week in Miami. They always have a lot of talent, and they always play hard, so it's going to be a tough task, but we're up for the challenge. |
| Brandon, Coral Springs, FL: Hey Matt congrats on the win this saturday. Awesome comeback toss to Rich. I was so amzed. I have been to every game in the past 2 years. I was wondering if you have tips for an oncoming high school quarterback. |
Matt Ryan: Just have fun, and continue to enjoy playing. High school is a great time. High school football is such a special experience in your life, and I had so much fun. Enjoy playing, enjoy your teammates, and have a lot of fun in the locker room and on the practice field, and just play hard. Things will work out if you put in the time. The main tip I would have is to continue to have fun and enjoy playing a game you love. |
| Matt, NH: What is your favorite part about playing for BC? |
Matt Ryan: I think the best thing about playing at BC is the teammates you have, the guys you get to meet over the course of your four or five years at BC. There are so many great guys who come and play at Boston College, and you get to know them and develop friendships for the rest of your life. It's been something I've really enjoyed and find very special, and will enjoy for the rest of my life. |
Matt Ryan: Thanks for joining me again this week. Hope to see you next Monday. |
Matt Ryan: Hello everyone, thanks for joining me today. I'll take your questions now. |
| Jimmy K Southborough MA: What was your favorite sport growing up? |
Matt Ryan: I think growing up my favorite sport was probably basketball. I had a lot of fun playing that. I was on some pretty good teams when I was younger and I just really enjoyed playing it. I had a ton of fun. I really like playing every sport when I was young, it didn't matter what it was. |
| Thomas Weston, MA: Matt,
I am 11 yrs old and I've been to all of your home games and one away game when you swept Notre Dame. My quetion is :How do you want to be remembered at BC? I hope you and your team wins the ACC championship and Orange Bowl. I will see in Jacksonville for the ACC and Orange Bowl in miami (Dolphins) stadium. I hope you get drafted in the 1st round.
from,
your BIGGEST FAN
MATTY HEISMAN WE ARE......BC lets go matt you da man. |
Matt Ryan: I think the best way to be remembered at BC would be to have been the quarterback of the first BC team to have won the ACC championship. That's been our goal as a team the entire year and it's something we've worked really hard to achieve. We've put ourselves in a really good position and gotten ourselves to the championship game. Now we're going to try to win the game this weekend and achieve the goals we set at the beginning of the year. We're excited about this week, and hopefully we can get a win down in Jacksonville. |
| Robbie (Wellesley): How do you think practice will be different this weeks since you are preparing for the ACC title game? |
Matt Ryan: I think practice will be very similar to the way it's been set up all year. I think we've done a great job preparing for games week in and week out, and at this point of the season we have to go with what's gotten us here. I'm sure we're going to be off our feet a little bit this week to get everybody rested and healthy for the game, but we're going to prepare very hard this week and make sure we have a great game plan for Virginia Tech this weekend. |
| halyard (hillsville): How does it fell to be compared to players like Tom Brady, Payton Manning, and Brett Favre? |
Matt Ryan: It's great to be compared to those players. They're so talented and such great people, not only on the field but off the field as well. It's very special, and it's flattering. I'm always kind of shocked when I hear people compare me to those players, because they are such great players. It's definitely an honor. |
