Swimming And Diving Drops Dual Meet At BU

BOSTON, Mass. - After splitting a dual meet at UMass-Amherst on Friday, swimming and diving headed down the road to take on cross-town rival Boston University, and dropped a dual match decision to the Terriers last night. The women were defeated 190-110, while the men were edged 152-139.
The men started off well placing first in the 200 yard medley relay, earning them 11 points. Senior captain Andy Faughnan would swim well, winning the 50 yard free with a time of 00:22.08 and placing second in the 100.
Seniors Michael Cartwright and Thomas Martz also picked up wins for the Eagles. Cartwright would place first in the 200 yard backstroke while Martz would win the 100 yard fly with a time of 00:52.20. Junior Joseph Maloy continued his strong swimming earning two top-three finishes in the 1000 yard free and 500 yard free respectively.
Junior Billy Schwitter, freshman Jason Hazzard, senior David Lin and sophomore Tommy Chandler all earned top-three finishes for the men.
On the women's side, sophomore Caroline Byron picked up two more wins, as she placed first in the 50 and 100 yard free. Freshmen Caitlin Doherty and Ashley Leprine continued to impress as they each earned two top-two finishes in their respective events.
Senior Kim Garcia continued her steady season placing second in the 1000 free and third in the 500. However, the Terriers proved to be too much as they would win 13 of a possible 16 events to hand the Eagles their fourth loss of the season.
Swimming and diving next compete on Friday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. when they will take on the University of Maine at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
