Swimming Competes At Terrier Invitational

Boston, Mass. - The Men's and women's swimming teams had successful weekends as both competed at the Boston University Terrier Invitational Friday thorough Sunday. Each squad finished second overall with the men competing against three other schools and the women against seven.
The women got off to a great start as they would take first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 01:35.61. Sophomore Caroline Byron was again impressive as she earned a win in the 50 yard freestyle `A' flight. Teammate Elizabeth Snyder would take first in the `B' flight of the same event with a time of 00:24.54.
The women's 800 yard freestyle relay would earn a first-place finish winning by almost a four second margin over host school Boston University. The 200 medley relay team would finish third behind Northeastern and New Hampshire helping the Eagles to hold first place after 24 events.
Elizabeth Snyder, Kari Sveum, Tanya Suryoutomo, Mari Wunschel, Caitlin Doherty and Anna Smith all picked up wins for the Eagles.
The men also started well as they took second by just a hare, in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Senior Thomas Martz earned a first-place finish in the 50 yard free, just edging out teammate Andy Faughnan who finished with a time of 00:21.30. Marrtz finished with a time of 00:21.28. Senior Dan Kollar would take third in this event in the `B' flight, while freshman Brian Cogan took first in the `C' flight.
The men would also finish second in the 200 yard medley relay as well as second in the 800 yard freestyle relay, both times finishing behind UMass.
Seniors Andy Faughnan and Thomas Martz would both swim well for thee Eagles. Faughnan would earn two three top-three finishes, including a win in the 100 yard freestyle. Martz would earn another win in the free -this time in the 100, with a time of 00:47.69 in the `B' flight. Brian Tichenor, Brian Cogan, Alex Jansen, Joe Maloy, Colin Scott, Mark Green and Tim Jordan all earned wins for the Eagles.
Swimming and Diving will next race on Saturday, January 6, 2007 as they compete at the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo, Fla.
