Swimming And Diving Sweep Weekend

Syracuse, N.Y. - Swimming and Diving traveled to upstate New York this weekend where both the men and women earned victories against Colgate University and Le Moyne College. The women defeated the Red Raiders 151-149 while the men won 168-131.
Trailing Colgate by 16 points with two events remaining, the women placed first, second and third in the 400 Individual Medley pulling them to within four points of the Red Raiders. With only one relay remaining, the Eagles edged Colgate by .13 of a second to earn the exciting victory.
The women took first in four events, including the 200 yard freestyle relay, which they won by the narrowest of margins. Sophomore Caroline Byron swam well winning the 200 yard freestyle and placed second and third in the 100 and 50 yard freestyle respectively.
Senior Kim Garcia and freshman Anna Smith also had first-place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly. Junior Maeve Brennan swept the diving with first-place finishes in the one and three-meter.
On the men's side, the Eagles won 10 out of a possible 15 events, including a sweep by senior Christopher Wilson-Byrne in the one and three-meter diving. Senior captain Andy Faughnan led the Eagles with two wins in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle as well as a third-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle. Junior Joseph Maloy also earned two victories for the Eagles.
After an emotional win Saturday, the women defeated Le Moyne 145-126 while the men prevailed 161-101. The Eagles would win 18 of 34 events including a sweep in both the men's and women's diving. Captains Andy Faughnan, Dan kollar and Christopher Wilson-Byrne each earned wins for the men while junior Elizabeth Snyder led the women with two first-place finishes in the 50 and 200 yard freestyle.
The Eagles next meet is Friday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The women will face Northeastern University while the men race against the Friars of Providence College.
