Chat Live With Will Blackmon
August 25, 2005 | Chat
He's stalked wide receivers and starred as a return man for three years. Now he's preparing to take on a new role as a wide receiver. Will Blackmon joined BCEagles.com for a chat on Friday, August 26 at noon. Below is a complete transcript of the chat. |
||
| Will Blackmon: Hi everyone, it's Will. Thanks for joining us. I'm very excited to speak with BC fans! I'll take your questions now. | ||
| Jeff (Ridgefield, CT): Will, the ACC is all about speed...who is the fastest player on the team? | ||
| Will Blackmon: Hey Jeff, I would say the ACC is a very explosive conference. We have several speed demons on the team -- such as Larry Anam, Brad Mueller and Taylor Sele -- just to name a few. Overall, I think it depends on your game speed. When you are chasing someone down or being chased, there is a huge difference in speed. | ||
| Ty - Watertown: Hey Will - Todd Watkins of BYU is 6'3" and one of the fastest guys in all of college football. How hard will it be for Tribble at 5'9" and Williams at 5'8" to keep up with a guy this tall and fast? Any chance we will see you lined up against Watkins given you can match him physically? Good luck and watch out for the running back pass from Brown to Watkins which they ran for a 33 yard TD in their scrimmage yesterday. | ||
| Will Blackmon: What's up Ty? That's a very good question. Todd Watkins is a very productive player for BYU. I feel that DuJuan Tribble and Jazz Williams are our starting corners for a reason. They have very good technique and know the defense just as well as anyone on the team. So, with the success they have had in the past, they should be fine. To answer your question about me versus Watkins, I will just sit on the sidelines and hope and wait to get in. And thanks for the update from BYU's scrimmage. | ||
| Ana Cokkinias (Ludlow, MA): What do you feel will be your greatest challenge as a Wide Receiver? | ||
| Will Blackmon: Hi Mama Cokkinias! I feel that my greatest challenge at wide receiver will be blocking a defender. When I was a defensive back, I knew that when a wide receiver came at me, I would do my best to block him. Can't wait to see you at the games this year. | ||
| Jack (Rockland): Any special preparations for the high altitude you will face on Saturday? | ||
| Will Blackmon: That's a very popular question Jack. I feel that in the game of football, playing in a different environment is just one of the disadvantages that the visiting team faces. We will just have to adapt to the conditions and play football. | ||
| Eddie (Dix Hills): Hey Will! Thanks for taking time out to talk to your fans. Would you rather play D Back or WR at the next level, and why? What do you feel you are better suited for? Thanks again Will! | ||
| Will Blackmon: What's going on Eddie? Honestly, I just want scouts to evaluate me as an athlete and a player that is willing to do whatever it takes for his team to succeed. | ||
| Mike (Needham): You have said in the past that you like playing away games more. Out of this home schedule, which place are you most excited to play at? Also, if you had the chance to play at any stadium in the country, which would it be? | ||
| Will Blackmon: Hi Mike. I'm really excited to go down to Blacksburg again. Honestly, that was one of the toughest places I've played at and one of our best wins. It's one of the hardest places to get a victory. To answer your second question ... I would love to go down to Miami again. | ||
| Bill, Arlington VA: Will, Do you think this the best team BC has put on the field in your 4 years? | ||
| Will Blackmon: What's going on Bill? Each teams' primary goal is to improve from the previous year. I think this team has the potential to be one of the best teams, but often times the game comes down to how mentally prepared we are. | ||
| New York City: I have watched you since high school and I think that you are one of best defenders in the college game, how did it feel when you got benched 3/4 through the season on national T.V.? | ||
| Will Blackmon: There is a time when every player has his or her ups and downs or goes through a little turmoil. During that game against Notre Dame, my focus was out of position. Based on the way I was playing, I deserved to be benched. The main thing that I learned in going through that situation is enduring adversity has made me a more complete and mature human being as well as a student-athlete. | ||
| Dad (Cranston RI): Are the films helping you to tighten up you ability to play on both sides of the ball? | ||
| Will Blackmon: What's up Dad? I feel that the greatest athletes in the world can't succeed without watching hours of film. In you look at the NFL, the majority of the top athletes time is spent watching film. More than physical training. Hope you enjoy your CD and call me sometime. | ||
| Brad Joyal ( Northborough): Will, first off, I'm a big fan and I wanted to thank you personally for taking the time for taking a quick picture with me at the Spring Game, anyways, What would it mean to you as a team and for yourselve to walk into the ACC in your first year and make an imediate inpact? | ||
| Will Blackmon: It would mean a lot to us to make an immediate impact in the ACC. It would mean that everyone on the team believed that we could be successful. | ||
| Evan (Long Beach, NY): As such a versatile player I pose this question: 4th quarter of a tie game. How would you rather win the game...a 50 yard punt return for a TD, a 90 yard kick return for a TD, a 40 yard TD catch for a TD, or a 50 yard interception return for a TD?? | ||
| Will Blackmon: Good question Evan. I pose this question to myself every night. To answer your question ... I would have to say a 50-yard interception return for a TD. | ||
| Evan (Mamaroneck, NY): Now that you are on the other side of the ball, who have you noticed talks the most smack on defense? | ||
| Will Blackmon: First of all, I make the defense very aware that I am on the other side of the ball. That having been said, the whole defense has been talking a lot, but my roommate Jazz and I probably battle the most verbally. | ||
| Pete (BC): Deven Hester, Ted Ginn Jr., Will Blackmon... who is going to emerge this season as the best kick returner in America and why Will? | ||
| Will Blackmon: Assuming all the returners won't be kicked to a lot (haha - because I personally wouldn't) it's going to depend on who gets the most touches. | ||
| Will Blackmon: Alright, that's all the time I have - I'm off to practice. I BETTER SEE EVERYONE AT THE GAME BEFORE KICKOFF BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN I GET THE BALL. Take care. :) - Will | ||
