Shirley Named Assistant A.D. For Facilities

Joe Shirley, Jr has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director/Facilities at Boston College, Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo has announced. Shirley, a BC employee since 1999, had served as the Eagles' Head Equipment Manager since 2001.
"I am excited about this new challenge," Shirley says. "It will enable me to grow professionally while remaining a part of the BC Athletics family."
In his new position, he will be responsible for maintaining and distributing the scheduling database for all athletic facilities as well as coordinating the annual maintenance and renovation of Athletic Facilities.
"We are very pleased to announce this promotion," DeFilippo says. "Joe has been a tremendous team player and he is a great fit for this position."
For the past year, Shirley has served as the co-advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He led the committee's community service efforts, developing contacts and opportunities with the Franciscan Hospital and the Children's Hospital. His efforts were recognized by the college in May of 2005 when he was named a recipient of the Reverend John R. Trzaska S.J. Award in recognition of Leadership and Service to the Boston College community.
Shirley began at Boston College in 1999 as the Assistant Equipment Manager and was named Head Equipment Manager at BC in January 2001. He worked extensively with the Eagle football team, supervised equipment operations for 31 varsity sports and managed contracts with Reebok and Champion.
Shirley, a 1994 Northeastern graduate with a degree in criminal justice, served as the head equipment manager at Northeastern from 1994-99 and also served as the athletic merchandise coordinator.
Shirley, a native of Edison, NJ, now resides in Dedham, MA with his wife Amy and daughter Morgan.
