As the Boston College community continued to mourn the death of rower Scott Laio, his parents, D.J. and Mary Laio, issued the following statement:
We would like to thank all of the wonderful people who have supported our family during this very difficult time. Boston College, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the Church of the Transfiguration, and all of our amazing family and friends have provided a base of support for us to celebrate Scott's life, mourn his passing, and to remember him in the future. Scott was a wonderful young man that was blessed to have lived a full and rewarding life. He loved and lived for his family, his friends, his teammates, and himself. Scott was fortunate to leave this world doing something that he absolutely loved; rowing competitively for Boston College. Scott successfully rowed throughout high school and for 3 years on the Men's Varsity Team at Boston College. He selected Boston College for the combination of their outstanding academics, spiritual foundation and their competitive rowing program. He experienced significant success throughout his career both in tangible awards and the deep friendships he was fortunate to build and treasure.
A memorial fund has been established in his name at Boston College. Visitation will be held at the Anthony Funeral Home in Rochester, NY on Wednesday, followed by a funeral mass Thursday at the Church of the Transfiguration. We are requesting donations in lieu of flowers be made to; Boston College Rowing, Scott Laio Memorial Fund for BC Men's Crew, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
