Women's Swimming Defeats Northeastern, 174-126

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College women's swimming and diving team earned its sixth straight win on Thursday night with a 174-126 victory over Northeastern at the Flynn Recreation Complex. BC sophomore Carolyn Bowman won three individual events and was named the meet's most outstanding performer.
The Eagles opened up the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The squad of Tanya Suryoutomo, Bowman, Liz Byron, and Elizabeth Snyder combined for a time of 1:49.84 to take home the victory.
Bowman proved to be a versatile swimmer against the Black Bears. The sophomore earned wins in the 200 butterfly, breaststroke, and individual medley. Bowman won the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.40 and the 200 breaststroke at 2:25.43. She touched out a Northeastern swimmer to win the heat at 2:11.94.
BC controlled the distance freestyle events. Kim Garcia hit the wall first in the 1000 at 10:45.54. In the 500, Garcia took second with a time of 5:22.00.
Suryoutomo had an impressive meet with two wins in the backstroke. The freshman took first in the 100 and 200 with times of 1:00.15 and 2:09.90.
Byron continues to dominate the sprint freestyle events. The junior set meet records in the 50 and 100 with times of 24.21 and 52.80. Byron's 24.21 mark in the 50 also set a pool record. The Eagles took the top-three places in the 100 with Snyder and Megan Hurd finishing second and third, respectively.
The Eagles closed out the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Suryoutomo, Holly Boucher, Hurd, and Snyder were victorious with a time of 3:38.72.
BC also looked strong off the boards. In the 1-meter dive Jennifer Rhines took second place with 252.53 points, while Maeve Brennan finished second in the 3-meter with 246.15 points.
BC (10-2) will travel to the Big East Championships in Uniondale, N.Y. on Thursday, February 17.
