Women's Swimming Wins ECAC Championship

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Boston College women's swimming and diving team won its second straight ECAC Championship on Sunday at the University of Pittsburgh's Trees Pool. The Eagles edged the University of New Hampshire by seven points to earn their fifth title. BC finished the meet with a team total of 592 points.
Kim Garcia started off the day with an eighth place finish in the 1650 freestyle. Garcia came in with a time of 17:33.92.
In the 200 backstroke, Tanya Suryoutomo finished sixth with a time of 2:06.67. On Saturday, Suryoutomo came in sixth in the 100 backstroke. Amy Bromann and Juliet Paradine also scored points for the Eagles with 12th and 13th place finishes, respectively.
Liz Byron won her second individual race of the championships on Sunday. The junior earned 20 points for the Eagles in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.44. Elizabeth Snyder finished third with a time of 52.69. Holly Boucher and Megan Hurd came in 11th and 15th, respectively.
Three swimmers placed in the 100 breaststroke for BC. Carolyn Bowman hit the wall third with a time of 2:20.18. Erin Fransen came in 10th with a time of 2:26.00 and Nikoll Julien took 11th in a time of 2:26.30.
Torey Thelin continued to swim strong in the butterfly on Sunday. The junior placed third in the 200 with a time of 2:07.43. Katie Barry also scored points with a 14th place finish in a time of 2:11.96.
The Eagles closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The squad of Suryoutomo, Boucher, Snyder, and Byron combined for a time of 3:29.75.
Head coach Tom Groden was awarded Women's Swimming Coach of the Meet and Jennifer Rhines took home Diver of the Meet honors.
