Boston College Men's Track Runs At Valentine's Invitational

In its final tune-up before the Big East Championships, the Boston College men's track team received some exceptional individual performances at the Valentine's Invitational at Boston University this weekend.
Senior Geoff Atkins registered BC's fastest mark of the season in the 400-meter dash, finishing 15th out of 80 runners with a time of 49.09 seconds. Atkins improved upon his previous best by nearly one half of a second.
The Eagles' middle distance corps had its best performance of the season, setting top times in the 800 meters, 1,000 meters and one-mile run. Sophomore Daniel LaFave set the season's best time in the 800 with a finish of 1:54.60, exactly one second better than the previous top mark.
Freshman Frank DiVittorio finished seventh in a field of 63 runners in the 1,000-meter run. DiVittorio established the season's top-time for BC with a mark of 2:27.58. Jeremy Zagorski and Trevor Rozier-Byrd finished 10th and 12th, respectively, in the 1,000.
Freshman Patrick Mellea ran a 4:13.49 mile and sophomore Mark Alizzi set the team's top time in the 5,000 meters with a mark of 14:38.74.
Boston College will head to Syracuse, N.Y. for the Big East Championships on Friday and Saturday.
