Women's Swimming And Diving Tops Maine, 181-144

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Erin Fransen won two individual events to lead the Boston College women's swimming and diving team to a 181-144 victory over the University of Maine. The Eagles set meet records in all three relays to help them earn their ninth win of the season.
BC (9-2) opened up the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Tanya Suryoutomo, Carolyn Bowman, Liz Byron, and Elizabeth Snyder set a meet record with a time of 1:49.91. In the 400 freestyle relay the squad of Byron, Holly Boucher, Megan Hurd, and Suryoutomo won the race by more than nine seconds at 3:36.58. The Eagles closed out the day with their third relay meet record in the 200 free. Snyder, Suryoutomo, Hurd, and Byron combined for a winning time of 1:38.60.
Fransen had an impressive meet with wins in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. The junior won the 100 with a time of 1:09.84 and the 200 with a time of 2:29.09. Boucher took second in the 100 at 1:11.11.
The Eagles also dominated the sprint freestyle races. In the 50, BC took the top-three finishes. Boucher won the heat with a time of 25.50, while Suryoutomo and Ella Bieze finished second and third at 25.94 and 26.93, respectively. Hurd controlled the 100 with a victory in 54.73 seconds.
Byron continued to swim strong in the butterfly. The junior won the 100 and set a meet record with a time of 57.96. In the 200, the Eagles took the first three finishes. Katie Barry earned a victory with a time of 2:14.96. Diana Winings and Chelsea Benson finished second and third, respectively at 2:17.48 and 2:22.01.
BC also had a strong day off the boards. In the 1-meter dive, Jennifer Rhines took home the victory with 261.45 points, while Bradie Dwyer finished second with 216.00 points. Maeve Brennan led the Eagles in the 3-meter with 240.60 points for the win.
BC will host cross-town rival Northeastern on Thursday, February 3 at 6 p.m.
