Chestnut Hill, Mass. - A group of over 40 student-athletes visited Boston Children's Hospital as part of the holiday activities organized by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
The student-athletes handed out BC "thunderstick" noisemakers as souvenirs, and interacted with children in four wings of the Children's Hospital. The Eagles mascot "Baldwin" joined in the fun and was undoubtedly a hit. The student-athletes were treated to a fine singing performance by, Sara, a patient from Florida, and a number of other smiles and laughs from the children.
The Boston College community was also given a warm welcome by Dr. Gerald Healy, Otolaryngologist-in-Chief at Children's Hospital, who thanked the student-athletes for lending their support.
In addition to Children's Hospital, the SAAC made its monthly trip to Franciscan Hospital in Brighton where the student-athletes were greeted by Jack, the resident sports fanatic, and Brian, who made sure everyone was having a good time. The Eagles were also part of various activities, including holiday arts and crafts, story time and athletics in the hospital gym.
The SAAC finished up its semester activities with the "adopt-a-child" gift program. Each team bought holiday presents for less fortunate families. The gifts, which included clothes and various toys, were wrapped by student-athletes and staff and will be sent out to the families in time for Christmas.
