Women's tennis coach Nigel Bentley announced that BC signed four players during the early signing period in November. Dasha Cherkasov (Eastchester N.Y./ Eastchester H.S.), Svetlana Krasnopolsky (Los Angeles Calif./Campbell Hall), Alina Sullivan (Wayland, Mass./Cardinal Gibbons) and Sarah Svoboda (Wesley Chapel Fla./Saddlebrook Prep School) signed National Letters of Intent and will enroll at Boston College in the fall. The quartet should see immediate action as the Eagles will graduate four seniors in May.
"We are thrilled that Sarah, Alina, Lana and Dasha will be joining our program next year. We have four terrific student-athletes that will each make significant contributions to our team," Bentley said. "I expect each of them to have an immediate impact on our lineup next year. They all want the best in academics and to take their tennis game to its highest level. They are the perfect fit for our team."
Krasnopolsky has been ranked as high as 23rd nationally in the 18-under class and was ranked first in Southern California in her age group in 2004. Cherkasov was ranked 27th nationally in 2004 in the U-18s and also won the 2002 and 2004 New York State Championship.
Sullivan achieved a national ranking of 31st in 2003 in the 16-under class, and was ranked first in New England in the same year. Svoboda was a singles quarterfinalist at the Panama Bowl in 2004 and reached the semifinals in the doubles draw.
"There have been a lot of very good players in the past at Boston College and our pending move to the ACC next season contributed to our signing these four outstanding players," Bentley said. "We are extremely excited about the future of our program."
