Swimming and Diving Finishes Day Two at BIG EAST Championships

The Boston College men and women's swimming and diving team finished day two at the 2004 BIG EAST Championships, held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
Sophomore Torey Thelin (Darien, Conn.) established a school record of 55.70 in the 100-yard butterfly, the third-fastest time in that event, and bettered it with a 55.69 effort in the finals that night for fifth overall. Freshman Juliet Paradine (Garden City, N.Y.) was 30th in the same event with a time of 1:00.53. Paradine also swam to a 30th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.67). Fellow freshman Carolyn Bowman's (Cheshire, Conn.) performance in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:04.91 placed 11th overall in the preliminaries, and Bowman finished fourth in the consolation heat for 12th overall with a time of 1:05.05. Senior captain Michelle Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) swam 1:07.64 in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary heats for 28th .
Senior diving captain Katelyn Cox (Cheshire, Conn.) was eighth in the finals of the women's three-meter board. After accumulating 354 points in the preliminaries, she amassed 332.55 points in the finals.
Junior Tim Tully (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished 14th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:03.82, .05 of a second off his school record in the morning swim but earned the record with his 4:02.57 new school-standard clip that placed him fourth in the consolation heat and 12th overall. Brandon Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.) clocked a 59.65 in the 100-yard breaststroke for 25th.
BC's 200-yard medley relay unit of Paradine, Bowman, Thelin and Lane swam 1:49.25 for 10th overall. On the men's side, Andrew Naumann (Tucson, Ariz.), Twichell, Andy Faughnan (Aberdeen, N.J.) and Matt Northrup finished at 1:37.74, 10th overall.
