Women's Swimming Wins Seven Events At Nutmeg Invitational

New Haven, Conn. - The Boston College women's swimming team competed in the Nutmeg Invitational at Yale University this weekend. The Eagles won seven events in the meet that featured the University of Massachusetts, Syracuse University, Yale, Fairfield University and Williams College. Team scores were not kept.
BC opened the meet on the right foot with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Elizabeth Snyder, Holly Boucher, Megan Hurd, and Elizabeth Byron set a meet record with a time of 1:37.19.
In the 200 individual medley, Mari Wunschel started off her strong meet with a second place finish at 2:09.25. Carolyn Bowman came in seventh with a time of 2:12.54. Wunschel also came in second in the 400 medley relay at 4:35.96.
Byron controlled the sprint freestyle events for the Eagles. The junior won the 50 in 24.09, breaking the meet record. Snyder touched right behind Byron for second place at 24.66. Hurd took fifth with a time of 24.82. In the 100, Byron was victorious again. She set the meet record in a time of 52.09. Snyder came in sixth at 54.38.
Byron continued to dominate in the 100 butterfly. She set another meet record to win the event in a time of 57.00. She was named BC's outstanding performer for her solid swims throughout the meet.
Bowman led the charge for BC in the breaststroke events. The sophomore took fourth in the 100 at 1:08.22. Nikoll Julien and Boucher finished fifth and sixth, respectively. In the 200, Bowman came in third at 2:25.26.
The Eagles also looked strong in the backstroke events. Tanya Suryoutomo finished second in the 100 at 59.46 and Juliet Paradine took sixth at 1:01.48. In the 200, Suryoutomo came in fourth at 2:10.12.
BC won four of the five relays in the meet. The team of Suryoutomo, Bowman, Byron, and Snyder set meet records in both the 200 and 400 medley relays with times of 1:47.89 and 3:55.63, respectively.
The squad of Suryoutomo, Snyder, Hurd, and Byron also was victorious in the 400 freestyle relay with another meet record at 3:31.62.
BC will have a few weeks off before it returns to the pool for its next meet. On Saturday, January 22 the Eagles will travel to Amherst, Mass. to swim against UMass at 1 p.m.
