Men's Swimming Dominates At Nutmeg Invitational

New Haven, Conn. - The Boston College men's swimming team competed in the Nutmeg Invitational at Yale University this weekend. The Eagles won four events in the meet that featured the University of Massachusetts, Syracuse University, Yale, Fairfield University and Williams College. Team scores were not kept.
BC opened the meet with a strong swim in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Andrew Faughnan, Thomas Martz, David Herman, and Matt Northrup took a third place finish with a time of 1:25.73.
Tim Tully had an excellent meet with two individual wins and was named the meet's outstanding performer. The senior won the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:06.54 and the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.22. He also took a third place finish in the 200 individual medley at 1:56.63 and fourth place in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:59.09.
The Eagles also dominated the sprint freestyle events. In the 50, Faughnan took home third with a time of 21.72. Northrup and Martz finished behind him with seventh and sixteenth place finishes, respectively. Faughnan also controlled the 100 by winning the event in a time of 47.06. Northrup took fourth at 47.78 and Herman came in sixth with a time of 47:93.
Herman also swam well in the long distance events. The senior finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:38.22. Billy Schwitter and Joseph Maloy came in behind him at 16:51.48 and 16:53.50, good for eighth and ninth place finishes, respectively. In the 500 freestyle, Herman took eighth with a time of 4:44.60.
Brandon Twitchell led the Eagles in the breaststroke events. The senior finished second in both the 100 and 200 with times of 59.60 and 2:07.91, respectively.
BC's relay squads excelled in the meet. The team of Tully, Twichell, Martz, and Northrup won the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:30.88 and took second in the 200 at 1:35.35. In the 800 freestyle relay, Herman, Tully, Faughnan, and Northrup took second at 6:59.43.
BC will have a few weeks off before it returns to the pool for its next meet. On Saturday, January 22 the Eagles will travel to Amherst, Mass. to swim against UMass at 1 p.m.
