Five Boston College athletic teams are among the Top 25 in the country in their respective sports in this week's national rankings.
"It has been an outstanding fall for our sports teams at Boston College," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "We're very proud of our coaches and student-athletes and we wish them the best of luck as they head to their postseason competitions."
Among the ranked teams:
The men's ice hockey team (3-1) is the nation's top-ranked team after defeating fourth-ranked North Dakota, 5-3, last Friday night. The Eagles will play Hockey East rival Maine in Orono this Friday at 7 p.m.
The men's soccer team (11-3-2) is ranked 10th in the country and finished third in the Big East during the regular season. The team will play host to the six seed in the quarterfinals of the Big East Championship. A win in that game would send the Eagles to Piscataway, N.J., for the semifinals.
The women's soccer team (14-5) is ranked 22nd in the country. The Eagles finished fourth in the Big East in the regular season and defeated Georgetown in the Big East Championship quarterfinals. They head to Storrs, Conn., to play Notre Dame in the semifinals this Friday at 7 p.m.
The football team (5-2) is ranked 24th in this week's Associated Press poll and 25th in the ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll. The Eagles play host to Rutgers this Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. game at Alumni Stadium.
The women's field hockey team (16-4) is ranked 11th in the country and has qualified for the Big East Championship, to be held at Syracuse, N.Y. The Eagles are seeded third and play Syracuse in the semifinals Friday at 7 p.m.
A sixth team, women's volleyball (17-10), is ranked ninth in the northeast by the RichKern.com/AVCA Division I Region Ranking. The Eagles will play at Syracuse on Friday at 7 p.m.
