Eagles And Community Service
October 27, 2004 | Boston College Athletics
At Boston College student-athletes are able to combine their dedication in the classroom and perseverance on the playing field with a desire to benefit the local community. Through a multitude of community programs, Boston College coaches, players, and staff are provided the unique opportunity to interact with the local community by sharing talents and experiences with both children and adults. BC student-athletes are committed to giving back through numerous charitable and community programs with hospitals, youth groups and schools.
H.E.A.R Program
One hundred and fifty hours were donated by BC student-athletes who visited 12 elementary schools in the Allston/Brighton area to mentor children as a part of our Help Educate through Athletic Responsibility (H.E.A.R.) program. As an offshoot to the HEAR program, 40 student-athletes from Boston College will visit patients at Children's Hospital in Boston twice per year, bringing cheer and sharing stories. Visits to local YMCA's are also taken several times per year.
Food for Families
Three thousand bags of food are donated to 250 families and the elderly at the Commonwealth Housing Development each year. Boston College sponsors the program through the Greater Boston Food Bank. Our student-athletes volunteer two hours a month to unpack groceries and create shopping bags full of food to distribute.

Come on up to BC!
Each year, Boston College donates tickets to men and women's sporting events to our neighbors. Whether it is children at local elementary schools or to seniors at many local senior centers, we encourage children and families to come and cheer on BC!
Other visitors to Boston College this past fall included 750 hearing impaired students from across the state of Massachusetts and New England for the 2nd annual Deaf Field Day. The students, who are transported to the BC campus by bus, spend several hours being entertained at Boston College's Flynn Recreation Complex.
