KINGSTON, R.I. - The Boston College men and women's swimming and diving squads swept Rhode Island this past weekend by scores of 171-120 and 202-98, respectively. The men improved to 6-1 while the women own seven victories in eight meets.
Overall the women won 13 of 16 events, and the men finished first in 11 of 16 events.
Coach Groden named junior Tim Tully (New Rochelle, N.Y.) as the men's Outstanding Performer of the Meet, winning three individual races to lead the Eagles to the 51-point victory. In his first event, Tully swam 1:56.09 in the 200-yard butterfly for gold and then edged out teammate Andy Naumann (Tucson, Ariz.), who placed second in both the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.01) and 200-yard Individual Medley (1:58.57).
Freshman Michael Moore's (Houston, Texas) event-winning time of 1:02.04 in the 100-yard breaststroke earned him the Outstanding Performance-of-the-Meet award. On the women's side, sophomore Holly Boucher (Andover, Mass.) was also recognized with the women's outstanding performance for her 1:08.68 victorious effort in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Jennifer Rhines (Wayland, Mass.) topped the field on both the one-meter with a score of 223.20 and three-meter boards (231.95), earning Outstanding Performer accolades. Fellow diver Chris Wilson-Byrne (Wellesley, Mass.) also won both boards, accumulating 179.63 points on the three meter and 224.02 on the one meter.
Another dual-event winner for the women was freshman Carolyn Bowman (Cheshire, Conn.), who touched the wall first in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.75) and the 100-yard freestyle (56.28).
