DeFilippo, ACC officials meet with media regarding BC site visit
June 02, 2003 | Boston College Athletics
Gene DeFilippo, Director of Athletics, Boston College:
The group from the Atlantic Coast Conference arrived on campus yesterday and we had a very nice dinner. We began meeting early this morning and we've had some very, very positive dialogue and discussion. I know that we at Boston College had a lot of questions to ask and got a lot of those questions answered. We are still going to continue to meet later on this afternoon and we have some additional questions that we'd like for John Swofford and his staff to be able to answer for us. I think it has also been a great time for the ACC representatives to get a good look at Boston College. They asked us a lot of questions. They had a campus tour and they learned a lot more about Boston College.
Ron Wellman, Director of Athletics, Wake Forest University:
This has been a very productive trip for those of us on the visiting team. Many of us have been to Boston and Boston College in the past for one reason or another; some of us have never been here. To have the opportunity to not only see your facilities, but to discuss the possibility with the personnel at Boston College was extremely important to us. I will tell you that it was a very productive meeting. Much of the information, of course, we already had through various means but to have the opportunity to discuss all of these matters and the details associated with this possibility with the personnel at Boston College was very fruitful and, like I said, productive.
John Swofford, Commissioner, Atlantic Coast Conference:
I would just like to reiterate what has already been said. I think it has been an excellent evening and morning and a terrific opportunity to do just what it's intended to do, and that is to give Boston College an opportunity to know more about the Atlantic Coast Conference and to give those of us in the ACC an opportunity to learn more about Boston College. And in every respect, I think it's gone extremely well. In terms of our process from a conference standpoint, we will go to Syracuse from here and do a similar type of site visit at Syracuse University as we have done at Miami and Boston College. Then we will discuss with our presidents those three visits, have further discussions with representatives from each of the three institutions, and then move from there. In terms of a specific timeframe, I know you'd like to have one, I really don't think there is one. Although, I would expect that the process would be completed within the next month or so but in terms of being able to tell you very specifically when there's an end result to this I think that is a little tough to do at this point in time.
