Statement from Boston College Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo:
"I think it is the ultimate compliment to our students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans that the Atlantic Coast Conference is interested in entering into formal discussions with Boston College. The ACC is an outstanding conference, both academically and athletically.
"There has been no invitation extended to join the league, nor has there been an acceptance on anyone's part. This is merely the beginning of formal discussions.
"We have been asked by our university presidents to come to Florida with an open mind and to participate in discussions with the BIG EAST Conference directors of athletics. We will do just that and then will return to our campuses and report back to our presidents.
"A part of the discussions with the ACC will involve a site visit, but no date has been set for such a visit. I can also tell you that no time frame has been set as to when invitations or acceptances might be made."
