Women's Golf Wins Massachusetts State Championship

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The women's golf team won the Massachusetts College State Championship held at the par 72, 5804 yard Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
Coming off an impressive third place finish at the Big East Women's Golf Championship, the team fired a 334 to win their first tournament of the 2002-2003 season by 14 shots. Amherst College finished second (tie breaker) with a team total 348. Boston University rounded out the top three, also posting a team total 348.
Amherst College's Katie Gravel shot 40-39-79 to take medalist honors.
Leading the Eagles was sophomore Moira O'Connell, finishing just two shots back in third place with a 39-42-81. Junior Kerry Whalen finished tied for fourth carding a 39-43-82.
Sophomore Kori Goulet shot 40-43-83 to finish in sixth place overall. Tied for eighth position were Freshman Elizabeth Friel 42-43-85 and Tiffany Wernig 43-42-85. Rounding out the Eagles was sophomore Elizabeth Callery who finished 16th.
The Eagles wrap up their season at the 27th annual Northeast Women's Golf Championships at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Amherst, Mass.
