BC Completes First Day at Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - The Boston College men and women's swim teams finished the first day of competition strong at the Princeton Invitational. Eight BC Eagles participated in the night's individual finals competition. Sophomore Liz Byron finished a team-best fifth overall in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.34. Teammate Megan Hurd's 24.55 performance in the same event placed her fourth in the third consolation final and 20th overall. Freshman Matthew Northrup continued the strong BC showing by placing second in his consolation final and 19th overall (21.63) in the same event. Two lady Eagles set the pace in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Kimberly Garcia and senior Caitlin Healey finished 18th and 22nd overall, clocking times of 5:04.55 and 5:12.02, respectively, good enough for second and sixth in their heat. The men's lone representative, David Herman, was 16th overall and eighth in the second final, swimming a time of 4:49.29. The men's best event was yet to come as two Eagles landed in the second final of the 200-yard individual medley. Junior Tim Tully and senior Andrew Naumann clocked times of 1:55.43 and 1:56.18, respectively, finishing 12th (fourth) and 15th (seventh) overall. Holly Boucher, Megan Hurd, Torey Thelin, and Liz Byron teamed up to serve Boston College a sixth-place finish in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay. Thelin and Byron joined Juliet Paradine and Nikoll Julien for the Eagles' 400-yard medley relay which finished seventh with a time of 3:55.21. On the men's side, Brandon Twichell, Tim Tully, Jonathan Salibra and Michael Cartwright united for 13th overall (1:30.58) in the 200-yard freestyle relay, in fact the BC quartets finished 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th in that event. Twichell, Tully, Salibra and Matthew Northrup comprised the men's 400-yard medley relay that placed ninth (3:32.67).
