Boston College Women Soar Over Xavier

The team's success began early in the meet with Juliet Paradine, Torey Thelin, Carolyn Bowman and Liz Byron leading the women's team to a win in the Medley Relay finishing in 1:50.19. BC's B relay, Heather Page, Lauren Keibler, Michelle Lane and Megan Hurd followed shortly after to capture third place with a time of 1:53.30.
The long distance ladies dominated in the 1000 freestyle, Kimberly Garcia touched first in 10:36.27 and teammate Leigh Going took second in 10:49.67. Caitlin Healey and Holly Boucher earned first (1:58.50) and second (1:58.98) to continue widening the point gap over Xavier. Teammates Garcia and Katherine Saylor touched the wall in fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Lady Eagles continued to dominate in the 100 backstroke with Paradine leading the way with a first-place finish in 1:00.40. Page and Boucher also swam fast to claim fourth and fifth place. The women swimming 100 breaststroke did not disappoint and finished first, third, fourth to increase the Eagles lead over Xavier even further. Bowman swam a fast early season time of 1:06.41 with Nikoll Julien and Michelle Lane racing to finish in 1:09.45 and 1:09.57.
Senior captain Lauren Keibler raced to first in the grueling 200 Butterfly hitting the wall 2:12.56, followed closely by Thelin (2:12.93) in second and Katie Barry reaching the touch pads fourth. BC's sprinters finished 1-2-3 in the 50 Free. Leading the way was Byron (24.43) followed by Boucher (25.22) and Hurd (25.44). The Eagles swam great and held a commanding 97-33 lead at the break.
The sprinters success carried over after the break into the next fast event, the 100 freestyle. Senior captain Caitlin Healey drove to a fast finish of 55:47 earning second place with her teammates hot on her heels taking third (Boucher, 55.65))and fourth (Paradine 55.87). Heather Page and Kari Svuem helped the eagles in the 200 Backstroke with fast times and solid finishes. Bowman continued her winning streak in the 200 Breaststroke finishing with another quick time of 2:24.92. The distance swimmers swam well again in the 500 Freestyle, Megan Hurd and Katherine Saylor stroked to second and fourth place finishes.
Byron and Thelin flew to first and second places in the 100 Butterfly sprint both finishing in under 1:00. After another break Going and Barry both swam well in the difficult 400 Individual Medley. The Eagles sealed their win over Xavier with a win by Byron, Hurd, Boucher and Healey in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:39.95), BC's B and C relays had excellent finishes as well claiming third and 5th place.
Liz Byron earned the Outstanding Performer award while Carolyn Bowman's 100 breaststroke merited outstanding performance honors.
With their 1-0 record, BC heads south to take on the University of Louisville on Saturday, October 18th.
