Swimmers Complete Day One At ECAC Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Members of the Boston College men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up day one's competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The men's team concluded the first day in 12th place, out of 20 teams, with a score of 31 points. The women's team stands in 13th place, out of 21 teams, with a score of 25 points.
From an individual standpoint, freshman Caitlin Healey (Needham, Mass.) earned the women's team five points with her 12th-place performance in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:07.84. On the men's side, junior Matt Baker (Lakewood, Wash.) slipped a little bit following the preliminary round in the 50-yard freestyle. Baker earned the Eagles three points with his 14th-place finish, turning in a time of 21.66.
The majority of points for both the men's and women's teams came in the relay events. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Healey, freshman Amy Terrill (Walnut Creek, Calif.), sophomore Caitlin Klick (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Lauren Ohtake (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed 12th, finishing with a time of 1:40.31. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Baker, freshmen Michael Dellamano (Los Altos, Calif.), Robert Keely (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Matthias Schildwachter (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) earned the Eagles' 10 points by placing 10th with a time of time of 1:27.71.
The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Ohtake, Healey, Klick and freshman Erin Fransen (Eden Prarie, Minn.) picked up 10 points as they placed 12th with a time of 4:04.35. The men's medley relay team of Dellamano, Baker and freshmen Andrew Naumann (Tucson, Ariz.) and Brandon Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.) placed 10th with a time of 3:34.21, which is the fastest time for Boston College in the event this season.
