Individual Swimmers Conclude 2002 BIG EAST Championships

UNIONDALE, N.J. - Swimmers from the Boston College men's and women's swimming team continued on at the BIG EAST Championships Saturday morning in the final preliminary rounds at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Freshman Brandon Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.), the only member of the Boston College men's team competing in this year's conference meet, had a strong showing in the 200-yard breaststroke. He just missed out on making tonight's consolation heat, finishing in 19th place with a time of 2:08.67.
On the women's side, senior Lauren Schwartz (Mount Laurel, N.J.) also missed out on making the consolation heat of tonight's 200-yard butterfly. She placed 21st in the event, turning in a time of 2:07.94. Sophomore Michelle Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) turned in a team season-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:26.03. The previous best time was 2:28.61, which was set by senior Alexis Kostopoulos against the University of Connecticut back on November 17.
Freshmen Katie McCann (Walpole, Mass.) continued her strong performance at the conference meet by placing 23rd in the 200-yard backstroke. She surpassed her season-best time, which was 2:09.65, with a time of 2:07.67. Finally, junior Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) finished 31st in the 100-yard freestyle, turning a team season-best time of 53.00. She held the previous best time of 53.50, which came against Princeton University back on November 9.
