UNIONDALE, N.J. - Freshman Katie McCann (Walpole, Mass.) turned in an incredible performance Thursday evening at the BIG EAST Championships in the 200-yard individual medley, as she placed 10th in the event. Her time of 2:05.58, at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, set a new Boston College school record in the 200.
Earlier in the day, McCann was the final swimmer to qualify in the 200, as she placed 16th with a time of 2:06.15. To go along with her success in the 200 IM, she was also busy competing in two relay events for the Eagles.
McCann joined senior Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.), juniors Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) and Nicole Duffy (Fairfax, Va.) in the 200-yard freestyle relay in the first event Thursday evening. The four turned in a season-best time in the event, finishing with a time of 1:38.25 which was good enough for ninth place.
McCann and Suryoutomo joined senior Lauren Schwartz (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and sophomore Michelle Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) in the 400-yard medley relay in the final event of the night. The four just missed out on setting a new Boston College school record (3:53.19), as they finished ninth with a time of 3:53.55.
