Swimmers To Compete In BIG EAST Championships

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Seven members of the Boston College women's swimming team and one member of the men's squad will compete in the BIG EAST Championships Thursday through Saturday, February 21-23, at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, N.Y.
Leading the way for the women's team is senior captain Lauren Schwartz (Mount Laurel, N.J.), who will compete in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. Schwartz is one of three Eagles' swimmers to be competing in the 200 IM. She will join senior Lauren Keibler (Prospect, N.Y.) and freshman Kathleen McCann (Walpole, Mass.). Keibler will also join Schwartz in the 100-yard butterfly, while also taking part in the 100-yard breaststroke.
McCann will represent Boston College in four events, which includes the 200 IM. She has been one of the Eagles' strongest swimmers this year, as she holds the team's fastest time in three events. McCann will also compete in the 400-yard individual medley and the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
Senior Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.) enters her final conference championship competing in three events. She will represent Boston College in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Junior Nicole Duffy (Fairfax, Va.) will compete in two of the most grueling for the Eagles - 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle. She will also take part in the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Michelle Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) round out the list of women's swimmers taking part in this year's championship. Suryoutomo is in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, while Lane will participate in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
The Eagles will compete in all five relay events. At last year's meet, the five relay teams all set Boston College relay records.
The only male representative competing for Boston College is freshman Brandon Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.). Twichell will participate in the 200-yard individual medley. His fastest time of the season came against Georgetown, finishing with a time of 1:58.95.
