Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College swimming and diving squads traveled to Storrs, Conn. for dual meets against the University of Connecticut, Fordham and St. John's this weekend. The women's team (4-1) captured two victories against the three teams, while the men (0-5) were winless.
The women edged out Fordham University by a score of 158.00 to 141.00, and St. John's 179.00 to 112.00. They were not as successful against the host Huskies, however, falling 123.00 to 177.00. The Eagles have not been able to top Connecticut for ten years, as the Huskies handed them their first 2002-03 loss. Liz Byron turned in top finishes, including first-place in the 100-yard freestyle. Lauren Keibler and Kathleen McCann also performed well, finishing first in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 yard IM races, respectively, for the Eagles.
The men's squad was overrun by their competitors. Fordham topped the Eagles, 196.00 to 84.00, St. John's 195.00 to 67.00 and UConn posted 227.00 points to BC's 61.00. Tim Tully and Brandon Twitchell were among the top Boston College swimmers. Twitchell turned in a 1:01.57 performance, good for second-place, in the 100-yard backstroke.
Both teams are off until Friday, Nov. 15 when the women welcome the Princeton Tigers to the Flynn Recreation Complex at 2 p.m., and the men travel to Keene State for an 8 p.m. meet.
