CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Despite falling to cross-town rival Boston University 171-129 Wednesday evening at the Flynn Recreation Complex, the Boston College men's swimming and diving team had several strong individual performances.
Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman Brandon Twichell. Twichell, who was victorious in four different events in Boston College's last meet, won three more events on Wednesday. His first win came in the 100-yard breaststroke, which he finished with a time of 1:01.83. His time was a little less than four seconds ahead of the closest competition. Twichell continued his dominance in the breaststroke events as he took top honors in the 200, finishing with a time of 2:12.41. His final victory of the evening came in the 200-yard individual medley, which he edged out teammate Andrew Naumann in. Twichell finished with a time of 2:01.52, while Naumann concluded the race with a time of 2:02.35. Naumann also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:03.90.
Junior Matthew Baker had another strong evening for the Eagles in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Baker sprinted to times of 22.67 and 49.54, respectively, in the two events. While there were no other individual winners for Boston College on the evening, senior co-captain Stephen Hunter turned in solid performances on the one- and three-meter diving boards. Out of the six participants in the two diving events, Hunter finished runner-up in both events, only losing to Victor Paquia of Boston University, who is considered one of the top divers in the northeast.
The men's swimming and diving team return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday to take on the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.
