Men's Track Competes At The UConn Invitational

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College men's track and field team competed at the UConn Invitational, today, in Storrs, Conn. The Eagles took fourth place out of seven schools.
Winning the 400-meter dash, Mark Johnson ran a 49.44. Also competing in the 200, Szymon Sikorski finished 17th and Brendon Moloney took 19th. The only Eagle to compete in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles was Jeff Normant taking fourth place with a time of 55.32.
Placing second in the 800-meter run was Vernon Mickle with a 1:55.09. Following was Shawn Wallace in fifth (1:57.39) and James Mann in eighth (1:59.35). Taking back-to-back finishes in the 1,500-meter race were Justin Burden in fourth (3:56.16) and John Dudley in fifth (3:56.32). In eighth and ninth were Brian Mahoney and Dan Fitzgerald, respectively. Also in the 1,500 Nate Buttrick took 14th.
Winning the 5,000-meter run was Mark Fonnemann with a 14.53. Following in second was Bryon Gartrell with a 15:04. Andrew Shaffer finished fourth, Christian Deluke followed in eighth and Matt Kootman took 11th.
In the 100-meter dash Shedrick Gavin took 13th followed by Dan Fleming in 20th. In the 110 hurdles, Keith Normant finished 10th and Fleming took 15th. Gabe Verdaguer finished 16th in the 200-meter dash.
In field events, Verdaguer won the long jump, jumping 7.05 meters. Following in ninth was Moloney. Moloney also took sixth place in the high jump. Taking fourth in the triple jump was Keith Normandt with a 12.41-meter jump. Tony Bierne finished in fifth in the shot put and in eighth in the hammer throw. In the javelin, Ryan O'Hagan took 14th and Moloney took 15th.
Winning the meet was Rhode Island (196.50) followed by: Connecticut (170), Central Connecticut (100), Boston College (94), Vermont (63), Providence (30) and Sacred Heart (27.50).
Boston College will next compete against New Hampshire and Syracuse on Sat. Apr 14, in Hanover, N.H.
