Track Competes At Husky Invitational

BOSTON - The Boston College men and women's track and field teams competed at the Husky Invitational, on Saturday, April 21, at Solomon Track in Boston.
Winning the 400-meter dash, Lauren Claudia ran a 57.50. Melissa Connell ran a 59.64 and took four place in the same event. In the 800-meter run, Jenifer Vendetti won with a time of 2:22.32. Following, Lisa McIsaac was seventh, Megan Andrade was ninth, Andrienne Dunn was 10th and Meghan O'Donnell was 13th.
The Eagles took the top four spots in the 1500-meter run. Laura Smith won with a 4:28.68, Jennifer Donovan was second with a 4:32.04, Sharon VanTuyl was third with a 4:33.01 and Jennifer Kramer was fourth with a 4:34.53. Rebecca Simmons took 23rd in the 1500.
Winning the 3,000 run, Julie Spolidoro ran a 10:07.79. In the same event, Meredith Mittet took eighth with an 11:18.66. In the 5,000-meter, Danielle Jelley ran an 18:02.40 and took fourth place. Also taking fouth but in the 100 high hurdles was Julie Heyde with a 16.12 and Erin Maloney finished in fifth with a 1:08.12 in the 400 intermediate hurdles.
In the high jump, Heyde tied for seventh place (1.52 meters). Taking seventh in the triple jump was Allison Castaldi with a jump of 10.33 meters. Megan Kearney took 14th in the discus (29.12 meters) and 10th in the hammer (35.72 meters). In the javelin Lindsay Hudnut finished sixth with a 34.92 mark and Christina Regan finished in 16th with a 25.34.
In the 100-meter dash, Zoey O'Sulivan took third place with a 12.45 and Nikki Pogue finished tied for fourth with a 12.60. Finishing back-to-back in the 200-meter, O'Sullivan ran a 25.72 good for third and Pogue ran a 26.38, for fourth.
On the men's side, Shedrick Gavin took 22nd (11.76) in the 100 meters and Dan Fleming took 27th (11.94). In the 200-meter dash Keith Normant finished 17th (23.46), followed by Gavin in 18th (23.47) and Fleming in 32nd (24.67).
Running a 50.04, Mark Johnson took seventh in the 400-meter dash, Kevin Hansberry followed in 23rd (52.85). Mike McKenzie took fourth in the 800 run with a 1:54.99. Following in 16th was Mike Krashes (2:00.76) and James Mann (2:01.73) was 20th.
Finishing with the highest place on the men's side, Justin Burdon was second in the 1500 with a time of 3:57.83. In fifth with a 4:02.67 was Shawn Wallace followed by John Dudley in sixth with a 4:03.38. In the same event Kevin Lyons too ninth (4:06.49), Dan Fitzgerald was 11th (4:07.78) and Vernon Mickle was 16th (4:10.12).
In the 5,000-meter run, Mark Fonnemann was fourth with a 15:06.89. Matt Kootman followed in seventh (15:20.87), Byron Gartrell in 13th (15:34.19) and Andy Shaffer in 17th (15:44.47). Running the 10,000-meter, Christian Deluke finished fourth with a 32:26.60.
Taking sixth place, Keith Normant ran a 15.92 in the 110 high hurdles. Gabe Verdaguer followed in 12th (16.35) and Fleming took 18th (17.08). In the 400 intermediate hurdles, Jeff Normant took third with a 55.86. Competing in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, Brian Mahoney took second with a 9:38.14 and Nate Buttrick followed in fourth with a 9:56.83.
In the high jump, Verdaguer jumped to 15th (1.78) and in the pole vault he took eighth (3.81). Todd Lyons took 11th (3.51) in the pole vault. Tony Bierne took third in the shot put (13.94), 13th in the hammer (43.10) and 17th in the discus (38.40). In the triple jump Keith Normant took eighth (12.42).
The Boston College track and field team will next compete at Harvard, in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, April 28, while selected members will travel to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Relays form Thursday, April 26 to Saturday, April 29.
