WOMEN'S TENNIS TUNES UP AT HARVARD INVITATIONAL

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.-- The Boston College women's tennis team began the spring season at the Harvard Invitational on February 2-4. The team played individual matches against Brown and Harvard with no team scoring.
On Friday, February 2, against Brown freshman Allison Ashley and Junior Ruta Veitas both captured victories against Brown. Seniors Cynthia Tow, Kiren Fernando and Angela Niznik, sophomores Anisha Fernando and Brooke Moldenhauer and freshman Emily Hellberg fell to the Bears in singles matches.
In two matches with Harvard on Saturday, February 3, and Sunday, February 4, respectively, the Eagles were led by captains Tow and K. Fernando who both won their matches against the Crimson. Veitas and Hellberg split their matches, both winning on Saturday only to be defeated on Sunday. Sophomore Jessica Engel won her only match of the weekend on Sunday and A. Fernando and Moldenhauer each lost their matches on Saturday.
The Eagles finished with an overall singles record of 9-10 for the weekend and a doubles mark of 1-9 with the team of Tow/K.Fernando providing the victory against Harvard on Saturday.
The women's tennis team will next see action on Saturday, February 10, against West Virginia at 11:00 a.m. in Syracuse, N.Y. The match will be the first dual match of the season and will open BIG EAST play.
