Swimming Competes In The Final Day Of The ECAC Championship

SEWELL, N.J. - The Boston College men and women's swimming and diving competed in the final day of the 2001 ECAC Championships in Sewell, N.J. at the Gloucester Country Club. The women's team took second place out of 31 to end their season and the men finished 12th of 32 teams.
In the 1650 freestyle event, Caitlin Healy was the top Eagle finished with a time of 17:42.94 and a 13th place finish overall. Lisa DelSignore followed with a time of 17:49.28, taking 18th place. Caitlin Leahy finished in 19th place in the 1650-freestyle and Sarah Dreyer took 30th.
Brianne Sullivan swam a seasonal best (2:08.00) in the 200 backstroke, taking sixth place overall. Dropping two seconds from her seasonal best, Melissa Pierce took 10th place. In the Eagles best event, the 100 freestyle, Nina Suroutomo took fourth with a time of 52.49. In seventh was Caitlin Klick with a time of 53.23. Taking 12th was Nicole Duffy and Joanne Paleo finished13th in the 100-free.
Swimming the 200 breaststroke, Michelle Lane grabbed a sixth place finish with a personal best time of 2:23.77. In the 200 butterfly, Lauren Schwartx took 10th place and Lauren Keilber moved up into 12th place. Also swimming the 200 butterfly were Caroline Griffith and Christa Ehlers.
Swimming the 400-freestyle relay, Suroutomo, Poleo, Nicole Duffy and Caitlin Klick swam a3:30.34, tying a school set the previous week at BIG EAST and taking second place.
On the men's side, Matt Baker swam a personal best of 47.22, taking 15th place. Grabbing 12th place in the 200 breaststroke was Brian O'Neill.
Baker, Andy Naumann, Gordon Glover and Chris Murphy swam a 3:11.82 and took seventh place.
In diving, Kaitlin Cox took 13th place off the one-meter board. While Mike Wilt took eighth place in both one-meter and three-meter diving. The diving events were held at the Drexel pool. Erin Murphy also dove for the women.
Taking first place in the women's competition was East Carolina. For the men Maryland Baltimore won.
The Boston College women's swimming and diving team ended their season with a record of 11-2 and the men's record was 10-5.
