Swimming And Diving Compete At ECAC Championship

SEWELL, N.J. - The Boston College men and women's swimming and diving team competed in the first day of the ECAC Championship on Thursday, Feb., 22, at the Gloucester Country Club, in Sewell, N.J., hosted by La Salle. Currently the women's team sits in fourth place.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Nina Suryoutomo, Alexis Kostopoulos, Nicole Duffy and Caitlin Klick, swam a 1:36.77, breaking the school record for the second week in a row. The relay took second place, missing first place by less than a tenth of a second.
Taking 12th place in the 500 freestyle, Christa Ehlers swam a 5:09.92. Following in 15th place, Cailtlin Leahy finished with a time of 5:12.20. The third event of the day, the 200 individual medley, Lauren Keibler swam a 2:10.12. Swimming a 2:10.29, in the same event, Lauren Schwartz took 10th place. The final Eagle in the 200 individual medley was Duffy who swam a 2:10.69 and took 15th place.
In the 50 freestyle, Suryoutomo finished tied for third place with a time of 24.09, despite barely touching the wall on a turn. Swimming a 24.71, Klick took 11th place.
In the second relay of the day, Suryoutomo, Michelle Lane, Schwartz and Klick swam a 3:55.34, their second best time of the season. The relay took a fourth place finish.
In the men's competition, the 200 freestyle relay of Chris Murphy, Matt Baker, Andy Naumann and Gordon Glover swam a 1:27.92, the second best time of the year.
In individual competition, Naumann swam a 1:58.86 in the 200 individual relay. Swimming the 50 freestyle, Baker swam a 21.74 and Murphy turned in a 22.11.
In the men's 400 medley relay of Baker, Marc Manganiello, Glover and Murphy swam a 3:39.99 and took 15th place.
In first place in the women's competition, Eastern Carolina has 147 points. Following are: Central Connecticut (145), Maryland-Baltimore (130), Boston College (123.5), Army (92,5), Navy (92) and New Hampshire (81).
The second day of the ECAC Championships will take place on Fri., Feb., 23 at the Gloucester Country Club in Sewell, N.Y.
