New Look - Same Attitude!

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The new millennium has brought a new look for Boston College Athletics. For the past 24 months, we have undergone an extensive review of our logos and trademarks and how those marks support all of the Boston College athletic programs. This study led to the redesign of a logo program for the athletic department that will broaden the base of athletics-related design concepts and bring all teams under the umbrella of one branded look and feel. The result of this design project was unveiled at a media and corporate partner event at Conte Forum on July 26, 2000.

The new marks include an updated interlocking BC, a mark that uses the eagle along with the words 'Boston College', and a head-on view of the Boston College eagle - for limited use as an access logo. In conjunction with these graphic marks, we have introduced a series of word marks for each varsity athletic team that will provide a consistent look and feel throughout the department, in every sport from football to water polo.
The creation of a new family of logos has provided the athletics department with the opportunity to bring our uniform colors back to one standard of maroon and gold. Over the years those colors have wandered from red in football, to yellow in hockey and gray in baseball. A color match for maroon and gold has been carefully researched and gives our teams the opportunity to put a consistent look on the fields, court and ice throughout all of our 33 varsity sports.

We felt that this branding project would not only provide a consistent look for our teams but also a spark to our retail market of Boston College merchandise. Manufacturers of licensed products and retailers of those products have shown genuine excitement for the new Boston College logos. On campus, we will partner with the bookstore to provide all new merchandise in the Conte Forum and Alumni Stadium gift shops. Our web site, www.bceagles.com, sports the new look of the logos and our on-line store is up and running with new merchandise. Off campus, we have a season-long partnership with MVP Sports which will help Boston College to reach new markets with licensed product.
The new look has been well received in the marketplace and throughout the Boston College family. We have spent a great deal of time listening to what is important to our constituents and feel that we have captured the spirit of Boston College athletics in these new logos. A new youth mark will be included in the program to add the BC look to gear for the much younger crowd. Even our new mascot, Baldwin the bald eagle, is excited to be landing in Alumni Stadium to make his first public appearance at our first home game of the 2000 season.
