Men's Swimming Falls To St. John's

JAMAICA, N.Y. - Freshman Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) won two individual events to lead Boston College 145-91 over BIG EAST foe St. John's University. The ladies have won six-straight meets and are currently 7-3-0, heading into the Conference Championships Feb. 17-19 in New York.
The Eagle men fell 144-88 to the Red Storm to lose only their third meet of the season (6-3).
Suryoutomo swam to victories in the 50-yard freestyle (24.75) and 100 backstroke (1:01.15). Teammate Melissa Pierce (The Woodlands, Texas) placed second to Suryoutomo in the 100 back, finishing at 1:01.36.
Freshman Nicole Duffy (Chesterfield, Mo.) led a 1-2 BC finish in the 200 freestyle, swimming 1:59.14. Caitlin Klick (Chelmsford, Mass.) was second in that race with a time of 1:59.58. Duffy also placed second, by .01, in the 100-yard free (55.44), while teammate Brianne Sullivan (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished third at 56.67.
Sophomore Lauren Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) raced to an event-winning time of 59.40 in the 100 butterfly, over a second ahead of the second-place swimmer, Christa Ehlers (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who clocked 1:00.89. Schwartz then finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.09). Ehlers kicked off the individual events with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:40.41).
Erica Allen (Los Gatos, Calif.) placed third in the 200 Individual Medley (2:21.37). Sarah Dreyer (Indianapolis, Ind.) was second in the 500 free (5:24.12), followed by Joanna Myer (Leominster, Mass.) in third (5:28.15). Myer notched her first bronze-medal performance in the 1000 free, turning in a time of 11:04.98.
In the men's competition, the Red Storm won every event except for the 100 breaststroke where BC swept. Ken Barton (Meridien, Conn.) swam 1:01.20 to win the event, followed by Brian O'Neill (Reno, Nev.) at 1:03.19 and Russell MacTough (Chalfont, Penn.) at 1:03.98. BC's Marc Manganiello (Norwich, Vt.) swam an unofficial time of 1:03.89 in the same event.
Greg Dwyer (Rochelle Park, N.J.) took second in the 200 IM (2:00.71) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:59.22).
John Beierle (Rockford, Ill.) and Nicholas Riolo (San Jose, Calif.) finished 2-3 in the 1000 freestyle, swimming 10:33.76 and 10:49.61, respectively.
Matt Baker (Lakewood, Wash.) swam 56.95 to finish second in the 100 backstroke, followed by Howard Parrington (Jacksonville, Fla.) at 58.92. Baker was also third in the 50 freestyle (22.52).
Russell Keil (Tiburon, Calif.) was second in the 100 free (49.37). Freshman Matthias Schildwachter (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 100 fly (55.70) to top all Eagles.
The men compete next with the women at the conference championships Feb. 17-19 in New York.
