BOSTON - Lauren Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) captured three individual events to help Boston College defeat Northeastern 168-132 Wednesday (Feb. 2), marking BC's sixth consecutive victory over its crosstown rival. The Eagles, who improved its all-time series over the Huskies to 27-22-4, have won five-straight meets, rising to 6-3-0 this season.
BC led from start to finish, but mostly by single digits until Brianne Sullivan (Staten Island, N.Y.) headed a 1-2-3 Eagle sweep in the 200 backstroke, which extended their lead to 16. The Huskies never decreased that deficit any further after that event.
Sophomore Lauren Schwartz won both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. She swam 2:09.53 in the 200 then 58.87 in half the distance, finishing almost three seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. She also paced the 200 Individual Medley field with a time of 2:12.49.
Sullivan clocked 2:10.78 in the 200 backstroke, followed by Melissa Pierce (The Woodlands, Texas) and Erica Allen (Los Gatos, Calif.) in second (2:11.69) and third (2:15.09), respectively. Sullivan also placed first in the 100 back (1:00.19). Her teammate, Kendra Johnson (Weston, Conn.), was second, finishing at 1:01.89.
BC's Nicole Duffy (Chesterfield, Mo.) conquered both the distance and middle-distance events. The freshman swam a victorious time of 10:27.39 in the 1000 free then finished the 500 free in 5:06.64. Teammate Christa Ehlers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was second, just three seconds behind at 5:09.99.
Sophomore Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.) won the 100 (1:07.92) and 200 (2:28.51) breaststroke events.
Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) finished second in the 50 free (24.81) then paced the 100 free field with her time of 53.64, outtouching NU's Jess LaSalle by .03.
Eagle divers finished 2-3, twice. Shannon Lents (Boca Raton, Fla.) took second in the three-meter (253.60), and Kristen Gray (West Boylston, Mass.) was third (237.50). Gray placed second in the one-meter (245.95) while Lents totaled 244.25 for third on the same board.
