Rowing Participates in National Tryout

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.--Members of the Boston College women's rowing team participated in the November 2000 US National Team Testing on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at Carnegie Lake in Princeton , N.J. The US National Team Testing is the first national tryout for any member the Boston College women's rowing team to participated in.
Taking six for the Eagles in the lightweight women's race was junior Kristin Cary (USR, N.J.) with a time of 23:38.7. At 23.56.0, freshman Elizabeth Gregory (Arlington, Vir.) A finished in 10th place out of 26 participant race. In first was Temple's Gianna Bigliani with 23:21.7.
In the women's open weight race, junior Alexandra Kazanovicz (Northboro, Mass.) took tenth place for the Eagles with a time of 22.56.4. With a time of 23:33.5, junior Kristin Henny (Allendale, N.J.) finished in 18th place. Maite Urtasun of Rutgers took first with 21:29.6.
The US National Team Testing marks the first time Boston College's women's rowing team has tried out for a national competition since becoming a varsity sport this fall. Head Coach Steve Fiske feels, "It is great for the program. It is the firs time we have had any athletes participating at that level."
The Boston College women's rowing team will begin their spring season on Feb. 25 with the participate in the CRASH-B Sprints (the World Indoor Rowing Championships) at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
