CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College's Class of 2000 became only the second class in the 28-year program's history to graduate without losing to Boston University. The Eagles earned a 177-123 victory over the Terriers Tuesday night in Chestnut Hill. BC improved its all-time record against its crosstown rivals to 10-17-1 after winning 12 of 16 events.
Sophomore Lauren Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) led the Eagles with her three individual victories. Schwartz swam 2:12.45 to win the 200-yard Individual Medley, She also finished first in both the 200 (2:08.44) and 100 (59.27) butterfly races.
Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif.) continued her torrid pace in the sprint events. The freshman collected wins in both the 50 (24.93) and 100 (53.52) freestyle events.
Her classmate, Melissa Pierce (The Woodlands, Texas), won both the 200 freestyle (1:57.87) and 200 backstroke (2:09.80) events. Brianne Sullivan (Staten Island, N.Y.), who paced the 100 backstroke field at 59.69, placed second to Pierce in the 200 back (2:09.87).
Nicole Duffy (Chesterfield, Mo.) clocked an event-winning time of 10:29.32 in the 1000 free while finishing third (5:15.19) in half the distance. Christa Ehlers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was second with a time of 5:11.63 in that 500 freestyle race.
Diver Kristen Gray (West Boylston, Mass.) totaled 275.17 points to gain victory in the three meter. The junior diver also ranked third in the three-meter (245.03).
Alexis Kostopoulos (Marblehead, Mass.) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.43) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.42).
BC travels to Maine Saturday (Jan. 29). The meet starts at noon.
