The BIG EAST released its preseason polls recently with the women's soccer team tabbed third (Northeast division), field hockey picked fourth, men's soccer selected ninth and volleyball picked 11th.
Alison Foley's women's soccer team will begin the season rated third in the BIG EAST's Northeast Division. The team returns all but one starter from a unit that improved steadily throughout its 5-3-3 conference showing last fall. Sweeper Sarah Powell (Natick, MA/Natick) earned on a spot on the pre-season all conference squad.
Sherren Granese's field hockey team was selected to finish fourth in the league. The Eagles lose seven starters off a squad that finished 16-6 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. Back for BC is goalie Jill Dedman and midfielder Elizabeth Betta, two of solid veterans who'll look to blend with the talented recruited class Granese assembled.
The men's soccer squad was picked ninth in the 13-team conference. Coach Ed Kelly and company look to rebound after a disappointing, injury-riddled 5-10-2 campaign last season. Strong returnees for the Eagles include senior co-captains Paul Bourke and Paul Cornoni and junior goalkeeper Chris Hamblin.
Jackie Hadel's volleyball team will look to continue its ascent up the ladder of the always-competitive BIG EAST. Picked 11th, Boston College returns key players in setter Kyleen Charlton outside hitter Julia El-Hag. The squad will look to improve upon its 12-19 mark of a season ago.
