Junior Ruben Marin (Brownsville, TX) won his second BIG EAST high jump title of the year with his win at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Jumbo Elliot Track at Villanova University on May 2-3. The men's team finished 13th, scoring in three field events and two running events.
Marin's jump of 6'9.5" was enough to claim first place by a half inch over the next competitor. In March, Marin captured the BIG EAST Indoor crown with a jump of 6'11" in Syracuse, NY.
In other field events, junior Neil Koenig (Greenwich, RI) placed third in the javelin with a throw of 191'6". Junior Shawn McGinn (Cumberland, RI) set a new personal record in the hammer with a throw of 169'8". He finished fifth.
On the track, junior Derek Holland (Toronto, Ontario) raced to an eighth-place finish in the 3000M steeplechase (9:16). It is the second-consecutive year that he has placed in the event. Sophomore Jeff Normant (Needham, MA) placed eighth in the 400M intermediate hurdles (54.8).
Members of the team who have qualified will next compete at the New England Championships hosted by the University of Maine on May 14-15.
