Men's Track Opens Outdoor Season

The Boston College men's track team began the 1999 outdoor track season at the Husky Open held at the University of Connecticut on April 3. The Eagles finished third in the five-team field.
In the field events, junior Ruben Marin (Brownsville, TX) won the high jump. His jump of 6'9' topped the field by one inch. Junior Neil Koenig (East Greenwich, RI) placed second in the javelin with a toss of 189'1", a new career best by four feet. Junior Shawn McGinn (Cumberland, RI) placed third in the hammer (165'11").
On the track, senior co-captain Chris Fonss (Rancho Santa, CA) placed second in the 200m (22.48) after running in the 100m earlier. Sophomore Justin Burdon (Niagara Falls, Ontario) competed in the 1500m, finishing second with a time of 3:57.64. Sophomore Jeff Normant (Needham, MA) ran in the 400m hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 54.91.
Juniors Marshal Armitage (Burlington, Ontario) and Derek Holland (Toronto, Ontario) both finished fourth in their races. Armitage's time in the 3000m was 8:45.12 and Holland finished the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:48.21.
The mens track team will compete next on April 10, at the University of Connecticut. The meet in Storrs, CT will include teams from Iona College, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Holy Cross, Providence College, and Boston College.
