Men's Swimming Falls to Rhode Island

CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- The Boston College mens swimming team lost its first home meet of 1999 when it fell to the University of Rhode Island 143-97. The loss dropped the Eagles to 5-4 overall this season.
Eagles head coach Tom Groden named junior Greg Dwyer (Rochelle Park, MD) as the teams Outstanding Performer after he finished in second place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a seasonal best 10:29.12. Dwyer also captured second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.51.
Groden gave sophomore Ken Barton (Meridian, CT) the Outstanding Performance award for his effort in the 200-yard breaststroke. Barton finished in second place at 2:15.55, just four-tenths of a second off of the top finisher.
The Eagles placed first in two of the 13 events. Sophomore Russell Keil (Tiburon, CT) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.67) while sophomore Mike Wilt(Columbia, CT) captured first place in the one-meter diving event.
The Eagles next meet is also at home on Tuesday January 26 against Commonwealth Avenue rival Boston University. Then on Sunday, Boston College will face the University of Maine.
