Field Hockey Complex
Field Hockey Complex
Address: 885 Centre St. Newton, Mass. 02459
The Boston College Field Hockey Complex complete with AstroTurf has been home to the Lady Eagles since opening in 2005. Not only the team's home field in competitions, the facility also serves as the team's practice location, allowing the Eagles to have a true home of their own on-campus.
Construction began on April 19, 2005, and was completed in mid-August the same year. The Eagles christened the field with a 3-2 win over Kent State on Sept. 4, 2005. The complex has also hosted three ACC Field Hockey Championships (2007, 2013, 2019).
Adjacent to the New Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field, the Field Hockey Complex features an irrigated, non-filled nylon turf surrounded by fencing and a retaining wall. The complex includes a 750-seat bleacher, a press box and a sports lighting system for evening play. In preparation for the 2007 fall season, wireless internet and an expanded, closed-in press box were added.
In the summer of 2014, the facility received even more enhancements, including a brand-new AstroTurf 12 surface and a new watering system with increased power and speed. It also benefitted from an updated scoreboard in 2016.
With a home slate packed with the nation's best teams, courtesy of the always challenging Atlantic Coast Conference schedule and an aggressive non-conference lineup, the Eagles use the Field Hockey Complex to their advantage. General fans, friends, and family sit right near the action in the bleachers and cheer on the Eagles.
In 2007, the Eagles hosted the ACC Field Hockey Championships and Newton Campus Field became the first site of an ACC championship hosted by Boston College. While the Eagles bowed in the quarterfinals, almost 1,500 fans attended the five-game tournament, including the 500 who watched the championship game as North Carolina defeated Wake Forest, 4-3, in overtime. The tournament returned in 2013 and welcomed almost 2,200 fans to the six games. However when the Eagles played host in 2019, a record-breaking number of fans attended the championship match which came down to North Carolina versus BC. While BC found themselves runners-up in the conference championship, they appeared in their first NCAA Final Four that same season.
