AS A SENIOR (2018-19): Swam a season best in the 50 Y Free with a time of 21.44… swam a personal best in the 100 Y Free with a time of 46.39… swam a season best in the 200 Y Back with a time of 1:42.43… swam a season best in the 100 Y Back with a time of 54.80 ... named to the ACC Honor Roll.
AS A JUNIOR (2017-2018): Competed primarily in freestyle and backstroke events…at the Boston Winter Open, won the 100 yd. backstroke (52.47) and placed 3rd in the 200 yd. freestyle (1:42.91) and 100 yd. freestyle (47.00)…at the Terrier Invitational, placed 15th in the 200 yd. freestyle (1:43.38), 24th in the 100 yd. freestyle (48.28), 35th in the 200 yd. individual medley (1:57.04), and 38th in the 50 yd. freestyle (22.07)…at the dual meet vs. Williams, placed fourth in the 100 yd. freestyle (1:44.17) and 5th in the 100 yd. freestyle (48.05)…at the New England Catholic Invite, placed 11th in the 200 yd. freestyle (1:50.61), 15th in the 100 yd. freestyle (50.57), and 17th in the 50 yd. freestyle (23.05)…named to the ACC Honor Roll.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2016-2017): Primarily competed in sprint and middle-distance Freestyle events…at the Terrier Invite, placed 11th in the 200 yard Freestyle with a time of 1:42.20, 19th in the 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 21.44, and qualified for the Bonus Final in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 47.76…placed 4th in the 200 yard Freestyle at the Williams dual…at the Husky Invite, placed 2nd in the 200 yard Freestyle and 3rd in the 100 yard Freestyle with a season-best time of 47.37…selected as second alternate for the Men’s ACC Squad.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2016-2017): Came in second in the 200 yd. free (1:43.83) and third in the 100 yd. free (47.37) at the Husky Invitational…placed fourth in the 200 yd. free (1:44.65) vs. Williams College…finished fourth in the 200 yd. free (1:48.77) vs. Marist…placed fourth in the 50 yd. backstroke (26.43) and ninth in the 200 yd. free (1:50.08) against Tufts.
AS A FRESHMAN (2015-2016): Took seventh in the 100 yd. freestyle (50.13) and the 100 yd. backstroke (56.39) and 10th in the 200 yd. IM (2:05.98) in his college career debut at the New England Catholic Invitational…improved in all of his swims at the Terrier Invitational, placing 22nd in the 50 yd. freestyle (21.69), 36th in the 100 yd. freestyle (48.00), 16th in the 200 yd. freestyle (1:42.39) and 26th in the 100 yd. backstroke (53.78)…competed in the ACC Championships as a freshman and placed 58th in the 100 yd. freestyle (47.05) and 45th in the 200 yd. freestyle (1:41.69).
BEFORE BC: Attended Cedar Park Christian High School, Swam for Woodinville High School...achieved the school records in the 50 and 100 free and in the 200 medley relay...attended Long Course Junior Nationals 2014 and Short Course Junior Nationals 2014...Scholastic All-American in 2014 and 2015.
PERSONAL: Cole is from Monroe, WA...he is the son of Mark and Cheri VanderWel...Cole has a sister Heidi (19) who is a sophomore at Yale University and a member of the swim team...Cole swims for club team King Aquatic Club.
