Part of the Military Appreciation Game on Saturday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team welcomed former United States service men and women and their families to The Heights for the sixth straight year as part of the annual Military Appreciation Game weekend. On Thursday afternoon, the Eagles teamed up with Home Base and Wounded Warrior Project to bring local veterans to Harrington Athletics Village for a friendly game of softball. Despite a few rain showers, it was a great day to be at the ball park with new and old faces.
After the game, the Eagles put together backpacks filled with Under Armour and BC gear for wounded service people at Walter Reed Military Medical Center that will be delivered by BC Athletics department staff later in the year. The student-athletes wrote notes to thank those receiving the bags.
All participants stayed for a bar-b-que, provided by Boston's Sweet Cheeks, and 11-year U.S. Army veteran Jeremiah Pauley shared his story before the conclusion of the event.
On Saturday, the Eagles welcome back all the veterans for the Sixth Annual Military Appreciation Game. They will be included in the pre-game ceremonies and ceremonial first pitch. BC student-athletes will unfurl the large American flag over the diamond and there will be a live singing of the National Anthem and "God Bless America."
