
Sharabba Leads Eagles to Series Sweep of NC State in Extra-Inning Victory

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Boston College softball team secured a series sweep of NC State as it defeated the Wolfpack, 5-3, in nine innings behind three RBIs off the bat of senior Chloe Sharabba, to earn its first extra-inning victory of the year and its 10 straight win. The Eagles have now tied the all-time consecutive win record that was set back in 1995.
Both teams remained scoreless through four innings. NC State struck first with one run in the fifth inning, but a home run by senior Chloe Sharabba in the sixth tied the score. The teams went back and forth over the next two innings as the score stood tied at 3-3 at the end of seven innings when, with two outs and two strikes in the seventh, the Wolfpack came back as Madeline Curtis reached on a single and scored on a double by Jade Caraway to force extra innings.
Neither team was able to score in the eighth inning. Senior Jordan Chimento led off the ninth with a single to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Cami Sellers. With two outs, Sharabba blasted a double to right center field to drive home the game-winning run in Chimento. The Eagles would add one more run with a single off the bat of senior Annie Murphy. Redshirt junior Allyson Frei threw a scoreless bottom of the ninth to secure a 5-3 victory for BC.
BC will play at the Brighton Athletic Village for the first time when it hosts UMass in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 10.

- The 10 game win streak is the longest of the season for the Eagles. The last time the Maroon and Gold earned 10 straight wins was when they won 10 consecutive games against St. John's, Fairfield, Brown, Villanova and Seton Hall during the 1995 season.

- BC has now won three straight ACC series by sweeping Virginia, Syracuse and NC State.

- Sharabba hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning. She also hit a game-winning in the ninth inning. She finished the game with a team-leading three hits and three RBIs, while also drawing one walk. With three hits on the day, Sharabba has collected a hit in 25 of the 34 games this season and has reached base safely in all but four games.
- With a single in the third inning, Murphy extended her hitting streak to six games. She collected two hits on the day and one RBI.
- She led the team on the day with a .714 batting average. She had a team-high five hits, while also picking up two RBIs and scoring three runs.
- Dreswick started the game for BC and threw 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while recording six strikeouts.
- Frei came in to pitch 2.2 innings of relief and held the Wolfpack to just one hit and struck out three batters.

How it Happened:
- NC State posed the first real threat of the game in the fifth inning when Angie Rizzi led off with a single over the head of freshman Emme Martinez at third base. Dreswick forces a pop out and a strikeout to record two outs, but Lily Bishop reached on a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second for NC State. Caraway hit a ground ball to second base and sophomore Olivia Markopoulos tried to get the force out at second but the base runners were running due to the full count, so everyone was safe. Rizzi scored on the play to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead.
- Sharabba blasted a solo home run over the right field wall in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1.
- Cheyenne Balzer led off the bottom of the inning with a single to left field. She advanced to second on a bunt and moved to third on a ground out to second by Haylee Kobziak. Rizzi hit a grounder over the head of Martinez and Sharabba tried to get Balzer out at home, but the throw was not in time, giving NC State a 2-1 lead.
- Martinez led off the seventh with a single through the left side and sophomore Delaney Belinskas came in to pinch run. Belinskas advanced to second on a wild pitch. Chimento reached on a hit by pitch. Both runners advanced a bag on a passed ball. Sellers reached on a fielding error by the NC State second baseman, allowing Belinskas to score. Markopoulos reached base on a walk. Sharabba singled to center field to plate Chimento and give BC a 3-2 lead.
- The Wolfpack responded in the bottom of the inning when Curtis reached base on a single up the middle and advanced to second on a throwing error. With two outs, Caraway doubled to left center field, scoring Curtis and tying the score at 3-3.
- Chimento led off the ninth inning with a chop single to right field to put the winning run on base for BC with nobody out. Sellers laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Chimento to second. After Markopoulos struck out looking, Sharabba stepped up to the plate with two outs. The senior blasted a double to right center field to plate Chimento. Murphy singled up the middle to drive home Sharabba and put BC up 5-3.
